First splashes

Day #29

Back in the school today. After a good first half to the morning it was the morning and we went out for playtime which was great fun to try out the kids favourite playground game.

It's were you have some spinner, wrap a string around it and launch it at the ground to watch it spin and do some tricks with it. I could pick it up but had no chance throwing it and getting it spinning.

After a good lunch and booking all the volunteers tickets for the rugby semi final this Saturday we waited for our first swimming lesson of the week.

Today was different as we had 3 kids who have never swam before. You don't realise some of the things we take for granted as we learn to swim at an early age.

But it was really satisfying to see these boys take a big step by the end of our time. One of the boys in particular had never swam before, at first he was scared of the water and struggled with basic kicking but by the end of the lesson he trusted me to help him swim a length while I sort of carried him. He had a big smile on his face after his achievement which gave me a great feeling.

I really enjoyed being in the water with these kids as they learn to swim, it's really cool. Even though it was flipping freezing!!

Before the swimming lesson we had another relay obstacle race and then we sorted out a team building exercise by building human pyramids.

It was fun to watch and help the kids organise and assemble the pyramid.

Then we tried one big one together which worked well for a couple of seconds then collapsed!

Had another great day. Particularly enjoyed the swimming and being a part of these kids learning to swim. It's hard to describe, a good feeling.

God Bless.
